The Economics Department is responsible for the academic process in the Economics domain. It has a qualified teaching staff and educational and scientific relations with many universities and scientific institutions home and abroad. The department covers over 21 disciplines offered at various levels in all fields in different faculties of University of Tirana.
The Department also provides its scientific and professional contribution to corresponding areas and sectors of the economy and business in the country. Members of the department have been and are involved in the designing and implementation of policies, such as fiscal, monetary and trade policies etc., have had their input in building national strategies, in the position of the government councilors and members of various boards and councils. Research work associated by the relevant scientific debate within the department on various topics on the economy and the process of further training as well as qualification of new academic staff remain the long term objectives of the Economics Department, with the target of ensuring a highly qualitative unit.
The Department of Finance is established as a sequel of the previous two departments: Department (Katedra) of Finance and Department (Katedra) of Accounting, which existed until 1992. The finance department was founded with the establishment of Higher Institute of Economy in 1952, and it continued to function even after the Faculty of Economy in University of Tirana was created in 1957.
The Department of Finance covers over 40 disciplines provided in all levels of studies in all the academic programs of Faculty of Economy, University of Tirana. The department is engaged intensively in the preparation and publication of textbooks, prescribed lectures and translations, to bring the level of disciplines it covers closer to the contemporary Western ones. The Department of Finance is responsible for the direction of second cycle of studies programs: Master of Sciences in Finance (MSHF) and Professional Master in Finance (MPF). Department of Finance has consistently administrated programs of studies also in cooperation with foreign universities, including the one year postgraduate course in Finance-Banking, created as a result of the three year project in collaboration with European partner universities such as: University of Ancona (Italy), University of Macerata (Italy), University of Wales (England) etc, within the framework of TEMPUS project. This course continues since 1997.
The department gives its scientific and professional contribution in different fields and sectors of our country’s economy. Due to its considerable contribution given especially in the field of scientific research through articles, monographs, and scientific conferences, the Department of Finance has established a good reputation in the country and abroad. The department has had fruitful collaborations with European partners, such as in USA, Italy, Germany, France, Slovenia, Kosovo, Macedonia etc.
The Department of Accounting is established in December 2004. It was created by sustaining the previous professional and methodological department of Accounting, which has existed since the foundation of the University of Tirana, until 1992. The Department covers more than 21 different subjects and modules offered in various study programs in the University of Tirana, as well as in other Universities. The Department also provides its active contribution to the scientific and professional in the field of various economic sectors of the country's business. The department has continuous contacts cooperation with foreign departments of Western universities in the US, UK, Italy, Germany, France, Poland, etc.
The knowledge and information this department provides is accredited with the global education standards and considers the long-term trends of economic development and business in the world. It expands interdependence and economic integration of social and international political thus forming solid basis in the exact sciences and communication in the context of a theoretical formation - applied scientific trend in the economy and business. Regarding the programs at the Bachelor degree and Master degree, the department is based on the international standards of Education (IES) of IFAC in such a way as to enable preparing students with the skills and capacity to easily enter the market and the profession.
Internal lecturers of the department are well-known figures in the fields of accounting, business and play an important role in the development of accounting professions, being members of the National Accounting Council, Audit Committee Members, business and government consultants, etc. The department initiates and organizes scientific conferences in the framework of increasing the activity of scientific research, by engaging all members of the department, especially the youth.
The Department of Marketing and Tourism is one of the seventh departments at the Faculty of Economics, established in 1993 to reflect the increasing interest in two innovative subject areas. It was founded after the movement for democracy on behalf of Chair of Trade and Merceology. The Department currently covers the subjects for marketing and tourism profiles. These profiles are divided after the end of the third year, on the basis of selection of business administration students. Also, the marketing department is responsible for the postgraduate program "Master in Marketing" (MM).
In the past, the Department took part in three TEMPUS programs with the University "Pierre Mendes France" (Grenoble, France), University of Budapest (Hungary), University of Angers (France) and the College of Tourism in Thessaloniki, Greece and in Modena-Italy. It was also part of national programs held by other departments within the Faculty of Economics. The department members are committed to ongoing professional development by broadening and strengthening the network with various universities and many local and international scientific committees. On behalf of its staff expertise, the Department of Marketing and Tourism has carefully designed and developed a portfolio of undergraduate and graduate curricula to reflect the needs of industries by linking theory with practice in accordance to the market demand.
Marketing Department is one of the first departments that has established relations with similar departments from the most prominent universities in Western Europe and the USA, with whom collaborates effectively. He also collaborates with a number of successful businesses in the country districts and universities. The most qualified staff of the Department is engaged in the preparation of textbooks for students who study at the Faculty of Economy. It takes part widely in different scientific studies.
Management Department was created in 1993 on the basis of the “Chair of Industrial Economics ” and “Chair of Enterprise Organization”. The academic staff of the Department of Management is responsible for the implementation of plans and programs of the following degrees: Bachelor in Business Administration, Master of Science and Professional Master in Business Administration and Public Administration, as well as Doctoral Studies. These programs integrate not only the principles of the Bologna Declaration, but also the best global practices, as a result of the academic and research commitment of qualified and active staff.
Through motivation, academic and professional preparation, this department aims to educate future professionals to manage successfully and lead transformations of modern business organizations in a complex and dynamic environment. Our graduates develop critical and creative thinking skills in order to lead organizations with integrity, passion and ethics.
Besides the commitment to quality teaching, the academic staff of the department is engaged in broad scientific and publishing activity. Also, the staff of Management department provide continuous professional contribution in different dimensions of economic reform & policy making, especially in the field of enterprise management and public administration. For this purpose, it cooperates with a number of domestic institutions, as well. Since its establishment, the Department has been in ongoing collaborations with foreign universities in Britain, Germany, Italy, France, USA, Greece, Slovenia, Kosovo, etc.
Departamenti “Statistikë dhe Informatikë e Zbatuar” përgjigjet për mësimdhënien në degën e “Informatikës Ekonomike”, degë e cila në vitin akademik 2006-2007 ka diplomuar brezin e parë të studentëve të saj.
Gjithashtu, departamenti ka si detyrë të mbulojë mësimdhënien e lëndës së statistikës dhe të lëndëve informatike në degët dhe specialitetet e Fakultetit të Ekonomisë, si dhe të kryejë punë kërkimore dhe shkencore në fushat e statistikës dhe informatikës së zbatuar, kryesisht në ekonomi dhe biznes.
Departamenti “Statistikë dhe Informatikë e Zbatuar”, në kuadër të punës së saj kërkimore dhe kontributit në ekonominë e vendit, zhvillon konferenca të ndryshme, workshope, seminare etj. Prej vitit 2009, ky departament zhvillon konferencën vjetore në fushën e teknologjisë së informacionit dhe inovacionit. Kjo konferencë ka si qëllim të mbledhë në të njëjtin vend profesionistët, akademikët, apo zhvilluesit e teknologjisë për të dhënë një pamje të qartë të nivelit të teknologjisë së informacionit dhe inovacionit në vendin tonë, për të raportuar rezultate të reja kërkimore dhe për të shkëmbyer ide dhe eksperienca në fusha si Teknologjia e Informacionit dhe Komunikimit, Inovacioni dhe Aplikimet në Ekonomi.
